Filter maintenance: differential pressure, changeouts and troubleshooting
Use flow, temperature and pressure trends to distinguish loading, operating changes and bypass, and establish quality-based, traceable maintenance.
Establish a clean-element baseline
Record flow, temperature, inlet/outlet pressure, element and fluid after installation. This separates clean resistance from later loading.
Keep measurement locations and units consistent, and interpret both high and low differential pressure with flow.
Three symptoms, different checks
High initial resistance suggests viscosity, flow, area or installation. Rapid rise suggests load or cake. Poor quality with low resistance suggests bypass, seals, element condition or downstream contamination.
This is an investigation sequence, not a diagnosis. Use site procedures rather than simply raising pressure or removing the filtration stage.
Replacement combines quality and operation
Change criteria may include differential pressure, minimum flow, quality, hygiene or specified service conditions. Record throughput and termination reasons to establish an evidence-based interval.
Element limits, recommended changeout and housing pressure are different concepts. Plan service around the actual instructions and safe access.
Cleaning, CIP and sterilization are distinct
Cleaning removes residue; CIP describes in-place cleaning; sterilization has a distinct target. Temperature resistance alone does not validate the cycle.
For reusable elements, define cleaning and rejection criteria and assess integrity, quality and flow recovery. Appearance alone is insufficient.
Turn service records into better selection
Log fluid batch, element, conditions, initial/final pressure, throughput, quality and change reason. Link residue photographs to the data.
Compare accepted throughput, consumables, labour and downtime. Reassess intervals when the process or feed changes.
